graduation

Yesterday I graduated. All those years procrastinating finally validated with a piece of paper that says ‘Bachelor of Arts’ with a fancy seal. There was much doffing of hats, a clarinet recital, too much clapping and wonderful canapés after the ceremony so all in all, a good night. I wore Oscar de la Renta which arrived the day before (I almost had a panic attack thinking it wouldn’t come in time) and I paired it with my ever trusty Manolo Blahnik black pumps. The dress fits like a dream and I just want to wear it again and again and be fabulous all the time. Oh and graduating was good too.

south trip: part 2

After Esperance we drove to Albany where we spent New Years Eve. It was just as disappointing as any other New Years Eve I’ve ever had but a change of scenery and judging bad outfits in the local pub made it somewhat better. We stayed in a backpackers in Albany and thought it was nice because it was clean but then there was an over-friendly guy with a mullet (creatively named ‘Mullet Guy’) who seemed just a little bit too interested in where we were going and what we were doing so we spoke as vaguely as possible. We did the usual touristy things like go to Frenchmans Bay, the blowholes which weren’t blowing as it is summer and the weather was too calm, walked around the main street and then hit the op shops on the 2nd before heading to Pemberton. I’ll be doing separate posts about the op-shops we visited as we went to 10 in about 6 or 7 days.

south trip: part 1

We decided to turn Southbound into an epic roadtrip, stopping at Esperance, Albany and Pemberton before making our way to Busselton for the festival. I took my Agfa Silette I with me, hoping it would provide some great holiday snaps. A lot of my images came up blurry so I now know to check my settings twice or take my Olympus Trip 35 instead as it is more reliable for day time photos. But at least I got a few good ones! Here are the first lot of photos which show our stop over at Wave Rock and our visit to Lucky Bay in Esperance.

southbound on film

We spent many a minute mocking the photographer wearing a waistcoat in ridiculous heat who got the crowd to do fake “woos” and what not. That’s not what Southbound is about! It’s about standing in the crowd, hoping that you’ve chosen the right film and have changed your camera’s aperture and shutter speed accurately enough to catch some sort of glimpse of the band you are seeing. I probably had my camera out for less than 5 minutes the whole festival because I want to see it with my eyeballs and not through my photos later, although they are cheeky bonus.

So here are some photos of The Vaccines, The Hives, Beach House and Two Door Cinema Club captured on ye olde film.
