west australian ballet costume sale

In a stroke of luck I wasn’t working today and Mum was dropping Paul off at the airport this morning so we could both go to the West Australian Ballet costume sale in Maylands, with costumes from productions spanning the last 60 years. After seeing them post on Facebook about the sale I knew I just had to go, if not to do anything but admire the beautiful costumes. Luckily, there were a few things I found that I can actually wear and Mum found some beautiful costumes to hang up and admire. She also found a cute child’s Nutcracker outfit that she is going to give to her friend’s daughter who is crazy about ballet and who is going to go to professional ballet school, I’m envious of her.

Along with what I’ll show you I also found a cute little mesh/diamante collar and Mum got some remnant fabric and lace, a plain pink child’s dress and a petticoat. So all in all we got about 14 or so pieces for $165! Ridiculously cheap! The sale continues tomorrow 9am-1pm and they were bringing out some more stock so there’s probably still heaps of good things to find. There were also lots of lobster hats if you’re into that kind of thing.

So firstly here is what I found:

Cami and knickerbocker set $10
Black velvet jacket $10
We had already paid but went back for another look and found this coat for $20, can’t wait to wear it in London next year!
My Alice in Wonderland boater, so cute! Not sure how much they charged us for it as it lost its price tag but it must have been cheap considering our final amount.

And here is what Mum found:

The little Nutcracker dress

We had a great time looking through all of the costumes and watching the children who were there play dress ups with the hats, definitely something that doesn’t happen too often so I’m so glad we made the effort to go!

So here is a post about what I wore on Friday to the Pigeonhole party, finally!

Also Amanda (who is really called Panda) and I did a black and white ensemble without even knowing it, ahh Panda!

three generations of experience

Last week I went for an adventure down to Rockingham and Mandurah with Mum to visit the op shops. When we were in Mandurah we picked up Grandma as well so it was 3 generations op shopping together, so special. We went to some we had never been to before, some only I had visited and then some we had all seen. In Rockingham we went to 4 stores and I found things in 3 of them.

One store in Rockingham we went to was the little foreshore house, the Uniting Church Op Shop.

It’s so cute and the ladies who work there are just lovely. I got two blouses and a bag for $3 each.

The first one is a nice little pussy bow blouse with a ruffley collar and the second is a red gingham long sleeve blouse, and I’ve got a better photo of the detail on the front because I couldn’t get a good photo of it with Fatty hanging about.

It’s so adorable! All these little embroidered girls in full skirts, and one boy in shorts. It’s a bit big but looks ok when tucked in with a belt which is all I ever do nowadays anyway.

And here’s the little metallic leather bag I found for $3.

There’s also the Salvos around the corner from this little one that had quite a lot to look at. They have a fancy dress section which boasts some Scottish plaid if you’re into that kind of thing. I got this coat here, it’s a 80% wool 20% polyester blend and set me back a massive $2.99! I think they priced it wrong but it worked for me! It’s really warm, has one button at the collar and another halfway down the coat and I love the collar which is half peter pan and half pointed, definitely going with me to London.

After those two shops we headed down to the Vinnies and Good Sammy’s in Rockingham. Didn’t find anything in Vinnies and some of the items in Good Sammy’s was overpriced (I’ll be writing some posts about these issues soon) but I did find this near mint condition glo-mesh bag for $6.50 in Good Sammy’s which made me super happy.

I didn’t get to go to all the op shops in Mandurah this time so I didn’t find any clothes, just bought a couple of records for $3 each from the Anglican op shop on Davey Street. It was fun going around them all with my Mum and then to the Mandurah ones with Grandma, we all look for such different things which is good in a way because we’ll never have to fight over anything.

In total, I spent $24.50 on this trip, pretty good I think!

rather vague polaroids

Well, hasn’t it been a bit of a while! I admit my whole ‘analogue april’ idea was a bit of a disaster due to my laziness and developing delays but I still aim to persevere and do more with film than digital (ugh blegh ugh). Here are some unfocused polaroids I shot today with mysterious subjects which I will, of course, explain.

This one shows 4 out of 6 buttons and half of each of the two pockets that sit on the front of my Chanel double breasted coat (oh yes, I said Chanel). I’m sure, over time, you will see the whole coat in all it’s glory but I think it will have to get a little colder first.

I’ve been trying to listen and buy more records since I got my turntable, and here is one of them. It’s my cousin’s second album (Honky Tonk by Micky Green) on limited edition white vinyl. I chose to shoot this one because a shot of black vinyl on a black turntable would not be excited. It was moving and my automatic shutter speed was very slow hence the blurring.

I couldn’t really remember how many shots I had left on this film because I had taken it out to use colour some time ago so I didn’t know if there were two or three shots left. To my surprise a polaroid appeared and I now have a picture of my little deer lying down on my desk.

All shot with my Polaroid SX-70 Sonar Autofocus on Impossible Project PX 600 Silver Shade Black Frame Poor Pods film (try saying that quickly)
