rather vague polaroids

Well, hasn’t it been a bit of a while! I admit my whole ‘analogue april’ idea was a bit of a disaster due to my laziness and developing delays but I still aim to persevere and do more with film than digital (ugh blegh ugh). Here are some unfocused polaroids I shot today with mysterious subjects which I will, of course, explain.

This one shows 4 out of 6 buttons and half of each of the two pockets that sit on the front of my Chanel double breasted coat (oh yes, I said Chanel). I’m sure, over time, you will see the whole coat in all it’s glory but I think it will have to get a little colder first.

I’ve been trying to listen and buy more records since I got my turntable, and here is one of them. It’s my cousin’s second album (Honky Tonk by Micky Green) on limited edition white vinyl. I chose to shoot this one because a shot of black vinyl on a black turntable would not be excited. It was moving and my automatic shutter speed was very slow hence the blurring.

I couldn’t really remember how many shots I had left on this film because I had taken it out to use colour some time ago so I didn’t know if there were two or three shots left. To my surprise a polaroid appeared and I now have a picture of my little deer lying down on my desk.

All shot with my Polaroid SX-70 Sonar Autofocus on Impossible Project PX 600 Silver Shade Black Frame Poor Pods film (try saying that quickly)

strictly vintage

Today I went to Strictly Vintage at the Palms Community Centre in Subiaco. There was an array of vintage wares for sale, and they advertised that it would be purely vintage, no crap nonsense and I believe they did a good job keeping it vintage. As usual there was the usual stalls with the usual dresses for over $50 that you could find in an op-shop for $5 and alter but I did manage to find one lovely dress for a decent price and an adorable little deer brooch which I managed to get for an even more affordable price because it was missing a stone from its eye, sad little one-eyed deer. From the picture above you wouldn’t believe we are in the middle of winter would you? People just lounging around on the grass outside, hot in the sun but freezing in the shade.
It was $2 to get in which is ok, I don’t miss that $2 at all. There was plenty of range and people too. A little bit hard to move in some places but you’ll get that when a thousand people RSVP yes to the event.

I got this blue dress from Ginger Fox Vintage for $29. It needs a bit of an iron and I might have to take it in at the sides a bit but it’s lovely and light and will be a dream to wear in the summer. The belt is attached….thinking of taking it off to give way to more accessory choice. I’m a sucker for collars.

And here is my little deer brooch, hiding in the bush. it was marked as $35 but when I told the lovely ladies that it was missing an eye they gave it to me for $20. I was teetering at $35 so $20 was infinitely better. They say it’s Marcasite from the 1950′s which didn’t really help my choice to buy it because it’s just so cute. There was another one like it with two deer joined together but I had to contain myself and my wallet, I need to eat dinner tonight.
I would say something like “I hope there is another one soon” but I don’t have to as most of the sellers will be at the Polka Dot Vintage market in August, I might have a stall too as Mum wants to sell some things and I have many vintage pieces I never wear which need to go to more deserving homes.

Deer me

Recently I went to this shop that has been sitting across from Oats Street train station for an age but I never went in because of the ridiculous name and the thought that there wouldn’t be much of interest inside. The shop I am talking about is Booksabilia and it has books and memorabilia (you guessed it!) but to my surprise they also have an array of nice antique ornaments, records and a cabinet with a whole shelf of vintage jewellery. I fell in love with this pair of deer ornaments, although I’m not sure about them being matching so to speak. One seems to be better quality than the other so I wonder if the second is a reproduction of the other…it doesn’t matter, they are so cute together I had to take them both. They were $20 for the pair, a lot of the other items in this shop are a bit pricy but if you fall in love you must have it!

Two deer ornaments

I am a little bit obsessed with deer and woodland creatures in general. Who wasn’t emotionally scarred by Bambi as a child? I also have a cute furry deer that I got from Mr Sparrow in Subiaco, a Bucky Jnr. from Cardboard Safari that has been on my wall for a couple of years now and I have received two cards through Postcrossing that have deer on them which means I pretty much have a collection now.

A beautiful Fawn Mule Deer postcard sent from Colorado, USA

Postcard received from Croatia

And some more deer on a postcard sent from Croatia

Anyway that’s enough fawning over deer, if you have a lot of time on your hands then pop on the train and go visit Booksabilia, it’s literally right across the road and you need to allow a fair bit of time to look through all of their stock and to have a long conversation with the lovely Patricia about cleaning silver and other strange but wonderful things.
